Warner Bros. has shared the official trailer for 'Judas and the Black Messiah'. The film is centered around the assassination of Black Panther Party leader Fred Hampton.
The film was directed by Shaka King, and stars Daniel Kaluuya as Hampton, chairman of the Illinois chapter of the Black Panther Party. Kaluuya previously starred in 2018’s blockbuster film Black Panther and scored an Oscar nomination for his role in Get Out.
Lakeith Stanfield also stars in the film and plays the role of William O’Neal, a FBI informant, who causes Hampton’s death.
The trailer that has just been released showcases the crucial aspects of each characters. It shows Hampton leading chants at Black Panther meetings, while O’Neals watches prancingly. Before cutting short, the trailer also hints at the backstory between their relationship and what causes the death of Hampton.
Cast of the film also includes Jesse Plemons, Dominque Fishback, Ashton Sanders, Lil Rel Howery, Jermaine Fowler, Robert Longstreet, Darrell Britt-Gibson, Dominique Thorne, Caleb Eberhardt, Martin Sheen, Algee Smith, and Amari Cheatom.
The film was intended for release on Aug. 21 but was ultimately pushed back due to the ongoing pandemic. No new date has been announced, but stay tuned for more information.
