The Weeknd's Super Bowl Halftime Show: The Dream (and Most Realistic) Setlist

We’re days away from The Weeknd’s historic Super Bowl Halftime Show! Guaranteed to be the must-see musical event of the year, the hitmaker will be pulling out all the stops to engrave his name with one of the best Halftime performances of all time.

The Halftime show can typically make or break careers. For some, such as Janet Jackson, M.I.A, and Maroon 5, they’ve unfortunately witnessed backlash when it comes to one simple mishap. For others, such as Michael Jackson, Prince, and Beyoncé, they’ve solidified their statuses with blockbuster performances that are still talked about today.

For a decade now, The Weeknd has evolved with each era being different from the past. From the mysterious, tumblr-driven days of ‘Trilogy’, to becoming an household name with ‘After Hours’, this 12-13 minute performance will be the climax of his already impressive career.

With a list of hits, and a slew of exciting collaborations, it’s hard to pinpoint exactly how the setlist for this performance will be, but that’s what makes things unpredictable. That’s why CTRL has crafted The Dream (And Realistic) Setlist for The Weeknd’s Super Bowl Halftime Performance:

Intro:

“The Hills”

The soaring synths will light the Super Bowl stage on fire (literally), as The Weeknd rises above the ashes for a clean performance of his first No.1 hit.

Trilogy:

“House of Balloons/Glass Table Girls” (Instrumental) + “The Morning”

Since the hits of ‘Trilogy’ are a little to MA for this family friendly event, The Weeknd will sing the chorus of “The Morning”, to honor not only the mixtape days but as well as his appearance in the Safdie Brothers 2019 film ‘Uncut Gems’. It then cuts to the instrumental of “HOB/GTG” which leads to…

Black Panther, Black Lives Matter, and Black History Month Tribute:

“Pray For Me”

The head-banging instrumental will soundtrack a super hero like visual to honor the late Chadwick Boseman for a symbolic performance that will also highlight the BLM movement and Black History Month. And maybe a Kendrick Lamar cameo?

STARBOY (Hello Daft Punk):

“STARBOY” (+ “Harder Better Faster Stronger” mashup)

The Weeknd fully taps into superstar mode as he performs the title track to his 2016 hit with Daft Punk, along with a light instrumental mashup of "Harder Better Faster Stronger".

Daft Punk Mashup:

“One More Time” + “Save Your Tears”

Daft Punk grace the stage to perform their timeless anthem “One More Time”, as The Weeknd sneaks in his current single “Save Your Tears” for a music moment that’ll be talked about for years to come!

MJ-ESQUE:

“Can’t Feel My Face” + “In Your Eyes”

The Weeknd channels his hero, Michael Jackson, for a performance of “Can’t Feel My Face” along with the final chorus of “In Your Eyes” with Kenny G in the background.

Catch Your Breath:

“Earned It” + “Love Me Harder” (with Ariana Grande)

To cool things down, The Weeknd plays a snippet of “Earned It” as Ariana Grande arrives for a performance of “Love Me Harder” (a song that Abel constantly credits as the breakthrough moment of his career).

Blinded By The Lights:

“Blinding Lights”

The Weeknd blasts off with a soaring performance of the stadium-ready hit “Blinding Lights”. This is the moment everyone will be waiting for.

Credits Rolling:

“I Feel It Coming”

What better way to close out this show than with “I Feel It Coming”? Floating above the stadium, The Weeknd will perform the hit with a thunderous storm of confetti and fireworks. And the rest is history!
