Tyler The Creator and Ariana Grande: The Next Two Musicians to be Nominated For An Emmy?
2019 was the year of Tyler, The Creator. Earning critical acclaim for his fifth studio album, IGOR, Tyler became the frontman of award season. Earlier this year the rapper walked away with his first Grammy win for Best Rap Album, and a month after that, he saw success from across the pond as he won his first BRITs Award for International Male Artist.
But just when you thought the acclaim stopped there, Tyler will be sure to surprise you once again. In March, Tyler guest starred in Jim Carrey’s comedy “KIDDING”, alongside fellow musician Ariana Grande. It’s been revealed by Gold Derby that Tyler, the Creator was submitted for an Emmy for the category: Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for his supporting role in the show.
Tyler will be a shoe in to be nominated, and will be included in the elite list of rappers to be nominated for an Emmy which include the likes of Snoop Dogg, LL Cool J, and Common. In 2017, the Emmy awards nominated the most rappers in a single year which included the names mentioned above as well as Chance The Rapper for his hosting abilities on SNL. Donald Glover, most notably known as Childish Gambino, walked away with his first Emmy for his role in the acclaimed series, ‘Atlanta’.
Ariana Grande was also submitted for her role in 'KIDDING' for Guest Actress in a Comedy Series. If nominated, this will be Grande’s first nomination. The popstar has a slight edge due to her previous acting experience which include starring in lead roles on TV shows such as Nickelodeon’s ‘Victorious’, as well as the Ryan Murphy produced, 'Scream Queens'.
The nominations for the 72nd Primetime Emmy Awards will be announced on July 14, 2020.
