Assume Form, James Blake

Since his self-titled debut back in 2011, James Blake paved the way, redefining electronic music, while remaining one of the most original acts to debut in the new decade. Though his discography is a retrospect into Blake’s loneliness, ‘Assume Form’ is the discovery of a new found love, and accepting his surroundings, welcoming his guest features to step out of his comfort zone.
Assume Form’ balances the signature haunting, somber complexity of his previous releases, while introducing the accessibility that he’s hinted with his collaborations with Kendrick Lamar, Beyoncé, and Frank Ocean. Rather it’s Metro Boomin’s trap production or Travis Scott’s guest vocals or Andre 3000’s electrifying verse, even his deut with Spanish singer Rosalía, James Blake complements the uniqueness of each artist while remaining in his musical disguise that is reassuring and rewarding.
