David Fincher Was Originally Set To Direct ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ With Sacha Baron Cohen Starring

Fun fact: David Fincher was originally set to direct the Oscar-winning 2019 film, ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’.

The ‘Fight Club’ director was on board during the film’s early stages before Stephen Frears got the job. Baron Cohen was also set to star as the ‘Queen’ leading man, before of course, Rami Malek replaced him.

Cohen was replaced due to creative differences. Fincher spoke about and revealed he saw test shots of Cohen as Mercury and called them “spectacular”.

He spoke to Aaron Sorkin on The Director's Cut podcast, Fincher said: “Dude, you have to see…these photos are spectacular. He’s so deft and specific. He’s such an intellect about the things he’s doing. He’s so thoughtful. He’s so quiet and thoughtful and chooses his words so specifically”.
