Drake and Popcaan Have A Hit On The Way

In 2016, Drake dominated the airwaves with hit after hit after hit. Drake’s reign helped to define that summer, one that people just can’t get forget. While songs like “One Dance” and “Work” topped the charts, it was “Controlla” that was the slow burner of the year.

At the height of the dancehall moment in mainstream music, the who’s who in the industry attempted their own spin with the sound. Drake, with Views, was the successor of it all while watering it down along the way. “Controlla” received attention when the original version surfaced online, and that version featured Jamaican dancehall artist, Popcaan.

The dancehall inspired track felt more authentic with Popcaan who revived a spark of bigger synths and a more upfront approach to the dynamic of the song. While he was ultimately cut from the song, his impact was blatantly there. Now, four years later, the two are looking to make magic again, this time with an official collaboration.

Popcaan took to Instagram to share a new snippet of a song that features Drake. Not much information has been revealed, but fans are on the edge of their seats for another song of the summer. Click here to listen to the snippet.
