We’re only less than a week away from the biggest musical event of the Summer, and things are getting hectic. The 2020 MTV Video Music Awards air Sunday, August 30 and artists have begun to drop out. As reported earlier this week, both J Balvin and Roddy Ricch, two acts scheduled to perform and are nominated, cancelled their performances due to safety concerns. Now, it appears that more acts have turned down performances, but for other reasons.
Hits Daily Double reports that Cardi B & Megan Thee Stallion, Dua Lipa, and Harry Styles are among the names that declined performances at this year’s show. MTV had their eyes set on Cardi B & Megan Thee Stallion to perform their No. 1 smash hit “WAP”, but both parties had to decline due to time conflicts, and a performance unable to be finalized.
On the other hand, Dua Lipa and Harry Styles completely turned down performance requests due to being snubbed from main telecast nominees. Both acts didn’t receive main show nominations but instead received technical nominations, which means if videos by either artist win, Dua and Harry don’t receive the award, the crew for the music video do.
MTV also just added a new “Song of Summer” with all names mentioned above included in the list of nominees. As well as "Best Group".
