J Balvin and Roddy Ricch will no longer be performing at the 2020 MTV Video Music Awards
It’s been a tricky year for award shows this year. Due to the on-going global pandemic, award shows have shifted into virtual experiences or being cancelled all-together. MTV promised that they’ll deliver a live event with limited to no audience. Originally scheduled to take place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, the award show will now take place across various outside venues in the city.
Now, it seems that some performers will no longer be able to perform as slated. J Balvin and Roddy Ricch have dropped out of performing at the show according to Variety. “As with every awards show, there are always last-minute talent changes. That said, this year has more logistical hurdles than most and the health and safety of our employees and partners is of the utmost importance”, a source from MTV told Variety.
The two acts were also removed from the MTV VMAs list of performers on the official VMAs website.
Ariana Grande, BTS, Doja Cat, and The Weeknd are among the name still scheduled to perform. J Balvin is nominated for Best Latin while Roddy Ricch is nominated for Best New Artist, and Best Hip-Hop Video as well as Song of the Year for “The Box”.
The MTV Video Music Awards air on Sunday, August 30th.
