Jaden Smith releases a “quarantine love song”. Smith returns with his first new release since last year’s album Erys. He described the song as a track to listen to when the sunsets as he says, “it’s made to be listened to when the sun is setting and you’re feeling good”.
“Cabin Fever” is produced by BURNS, who recently produced and scored a No.1 single with Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande’s collaboration “Rain On Me”.
Over a mellow instrumental, Jaden croons over his lover as he creates an atmospheric escape. Fitting for the long days of Summer, he creates a safe space with a new sound that finds himself at his most comfortable. Often times lost and attempting to conquer various styles at once, Jaden failed to connect with a base that expanding beyond his core fans. But with “Cabin Fever”, it looks like he is finally eyeing to attract larger attention.
While premiering the single, Jaden Smith spoke to Zane Lowe as he announced his forthcoming project Cool Tapes Volume 3.
“I'm bringing it inside, and I'm making it more of a world that other people can participate in,” Jaden said. He added that “this is also a prequel before SYRE. So, it's kind of taking place when I'm like 15, going all the way up until 17 and how did SYRE get trapped in the sunset? How did all that happen? Why did it happen? Where's your friends? Where's everybody else? Tell us the story before you get trapped in this Inception purgatory.”
Vol. 3 is the third installation in the Cool Tapes series, with The Cool Cafe: Cool Tape Vol. 1 released in 2012 and The Sunset Tapes: A Cool Tape Story in 2018.
