Slowthai Roundup Track Review: "ENEMY", "MAGIC" AND "BB"

Arriving back into the limelight, Slowthai shares a trio of new singles. Earlier this year the rapper was the face of headlines across the UK for erratic behavior at the NME Awards. During his acceptance speech for the Hero of the Year award, Slowthai and comedian Katherine Ryan had a sarcastic interaction which led to “misogynistic” chants from the crowd. Which then led to the rapper invading the crowd and getting up close and personal after drinks were thrown on stage.

On the first new release “ENEMY” the rapper references the incident with a sample of Matt Healy from The 1975 telling everyone to “send their thoughts” from that night and then ends with a woman calling him “cancelled”. Slowthai’s next move after the incident has been long-awaited with everyone glued to see what’s his next move. Channeling the energy of his obnoxious behavior of the night that inspired the song, Slowthai keeps it classic with a ferocious approach to his critics.

Next up is the Kenny Beats assisted track “MAGIC”. Keeping up the momentum, Slowthai doesn’t slow it down as the track is just as hard-hitting as the previous one. Over a Kenny Beats produced production, the rapper reminds listeners exactly who he is and why you should be paying attention to him. The minimalistic but in-your-face production allows Slowthai to approach the recurring theme with a cautious warning to those who doubt him.

Lastly, Slowthai enlists Dom Maker and James Blake on the third and final new single titled “BB” (Bodybag). Slowthai is aware that he is the new villain in town, and he wants everyone to know that. Preying on his critics, the rapper unleashes threat after threat over a subdued production. Shining on this track is his glooming personality and delivery that he precisely uses for his advantage.
