In this current resurgence of female rap dominance on mainstream music, Saweetie has found a niche for herself and has stuck with it. Flipping old-school rap classics into new age millennial anthems, Saweetie is making sure her sound sticks out.
“Tap In”, the latest single by the rapper samples Too Short’s signature hit “Blow The Whistle”. The rap classic was produced by Lil Jon, who also produced Petey Pablo’s “Freek-a-Leek”, the song that Saweetie sampled in her previous hit “My Type”. Saweetie managed to keep the momentum of the original and matches the energy for a different perspective of the song. It’s clear that she has built her brand on modernizing rap classics but from a woman’s point of view.
For a complete alternate spin on the hit, Saweetie recruited an all-star team to help boost the song further. Post Malone, Jack Harlow, and DaBaby joins Saweetie for a remix that allows each artist to shine. DaBaby comes out the bat with his signature delivery. Meanwhile, Saweetie taps Post Malone in for a high-pitched verse, while Jack Harlow closes out the remix for a verse of his own that steals the show. Jack Harlow references his hit “Whats Poppin”, and effortlessly matches the energy of the beat.
