Seven years later, and The Weeknd is ready to celebrate his debut album all over again. In 2013, The Weeknd released his polarizing debut album Kiss Land– the follow up to his series of mixtapes and the compilation album Trilogy. Committed to a specific sound that was displayed on the mixtapes, the debut album arrived with mixed reception due to Abel drifting apart from the beloved sound.
Now, fast-forward to 2020, the album is receiving the long overdue recognition. Earlier this week the album was discounted to $4.99 on iTunes from its original price, thus allowing the album to top the R&B charts and soar into the top five on the main chart. The Weeknd noticed the unlikely recent success of the album and will celebrate the album with fans by premiering unreleased songs from the album.
