Whole Lotta Carti: Playboi Carti is Back, "@ MEH" Review

After surprise releasing his debut album Die Lit in 2018, all eyes have been on Playboi Carti and what he’s going to do next. Since the time has passed from his previous release, the speculation has gone overblown, with every move he made caused fans to believe that it was all calculated. Within the time frame, Playboi Carti was no longer just another “mumble rapper” but rap music’s new punk rock phenomenon.

In typical Playboi Carti fashion, he made his much-anticipated return with no explanation needed, with the new single @ MEH. Oozing charisma through unpredictable techniques, Carti glides effortlessly with hypnotic abilities over a glitchy and vibrant beat that leaves listeners dazed and confused. Giving fans a peek into his post-trap world, Carti ditches his signature Pierre Bourne production, and trades it in for a galactic Jetsonmade, Neeko Baby, and Deskhop produced Super Mario World like sound. While he doesn’t really say much, he doesn’t really have to say much, nor should it be expected for him to do so.

Becoming the instrument itself, Playboi Carti’s delivery is mesmerizing, his repetition is enchanting, and his baby voice is simply captivating. Refusing to dive more in depth with what he has to say, Carti reveals just a little, and that’s all you have to know, nothing more and nothing less. It’s not about what you say, it’s about how you say it, and that’s Carti’s signature.  The song, @ MEH, is Playboi Carti continuing to unravel the mystique to his identity and we’re continuously receiving a glimpse to his potential.
